Commissioned to develop a store prototype for Bryn Mawr Stereo, an upscale electronics retailer, Richard M. Cole & Associates looked at the client's marketing objectives, its print media and its product line for ideas. Ultimately, it was the display systems of high-end stereo manufacturer Bang & Olufsen, in conjunction with Bryn Mawr's highly personalized selling style, that inspired the store's sleek, high-tech appearance.

RMC&A's design incorporated a generous, uncluttered floor plan that allowed customers to review every product individually. Innovative shelving systems concealed the product's electrical wiring and created the illusion of floating merchandise. Low-voltage spot lighting and soft background colors of black and grey further reinforced the image of high quality and state-of-the-art merchandise.
